This is for the original version of the Model L electric starter. The design changed in several respects soon after (see bulletins 570 & 576). The original starter clutch design used gravity-operated cams, not the more familiar roller cams. The instructions in this bulletin to lubricate with graphite apply only to the gravity cam type.

Note that the redesigned starter clutch has a grease fitting. Gravely soon discovered that this lead to overgreasing which prevented the clutch from working, so replaced the grease fitting with a screw-in pin.
